last night was special. While marching in Rio and chanting foreign words to me for the Amazonia I met an indigenous family. We started to talk about what is happening, how they have protected the forest for thousands of years, that this year is going to be no different - but they also said that “the youth of today need to step up. We are the forest. We must protect it. There is little time, we must hurry.” my heart felt so heavy and so light at the same time. Empowered. And as the father of the family closed the conversation, I thought we would part ways, but he put his hand on my shoulder and honored me with some Urucum on my face. 🙏 the connections and conversations made by chance are sometimes the most special! This moment definitely is held close to my heart. I could feel myself tuning into my warrior!
HOW BIG DOES THE FIRE NEED TO GET?🔥HOW MANY LINES DO WE HAVE TO CROSS.❌ Until we act? Until we realize that we have a choice to do something about it? What is it gonna take for us to get our humanity back? Because right now we’re not only losing that but even worse, something we can never get back or recreate. A part of this earth, that was here before us, now gone because of us. • this Friday, if you’re in Rio De Janeiro join me and @renesilva and many other activists as we gather to make some serious noise. We’re gonna be bigger, louder, scarier than the fire 🔥
BIG GIRL BOOTS. Strong, exhausting, innocent, protected and sometimes lost. guard up! Ever since I discovered black boots I never take them off. Marching forward, with footsteps strong around the world. But today, walking through the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, I feel a weight in my step. Social injustices, unfairness in everyday life. For people. And also for our forests. The amazon. 🔥💔 my heart is struggling to make sense of all the new learnings, and discover the ignorance of humanity. We are at war with ourselves and the choices we make everyday. It’s time to change the meaning of why I wear my boots. To kick down doors and barriers and turning up the volume on the truths; to walk and make a path forward to a world we are proud of.
mel+bel = BFF’s👯♀️ i hate that I always miss you but I love our random calls when you wake up and I go to sleep on the other side of the 🌎 BUT I can’t wait for our sister sleepover NEXT WEEK! Finally after almost 4 months, I will be home. 🥰😱
A huge honor. 🇮🇩 indonesia, thank you for honoring us and the work that we do. So humbled and so empowered to further Indonesia in a direction we are proud of. And also **holy shit!!! That’s me and bel on the national monument. Massive jaw drop and goose bumps all over. Wow. #nyalakanindonesia @ocbc_nisp
same blue waters as last week. but totally different feeling. Mary and Mo Chara 🚤saving lives. the first photo is by a lighthouse, many boats arrive following the light from Turkey to Greece. It is very dangerous here because of the rocks, but over all from the 9km stretch of sea between two countries, thousands have died. Do you see the life jackets? It’s to signal those that made it that there is a path forward. The irony of it got my ❤️ in my throat. The second video is us in Mo Chara 🚤 seeing the work that @mary_finn is doing. To say that I’m inspired is not enough. Refugee Rescue is still happening and still as important as when it all started. It’s not old news and we have to open our 👀 eyes but more importantly our hearts❤️ @biggerthanus_thefilm
